  • Who are the Vultures?
We are a duo of practitioners specialising in work with leather. We describe ourselves as a design practice, and not a brand as our process extends far beyond design and conceptualisation — it encompasses the complete execution of each piece. We craft our ideas. The process of making is a crucial stage of design, and our Objects would not be what they are if created by someone else. As makers, we wish to remain anonymously hidden to the extent possible in the modern world. We believe our work, and the values behind it to hold enough merit without the added allure of our personal stories. What we do consider important to note, however, is that we are women in art. An excerpt from our manifesto "...Our name transcends the mere musicality of its phonetics, nor was it chosen for its misconstrued symbolic meaning. It is as much our decision as it is a serendipitous chance to intertwine our design vision with such a peculiar, fascinating creature. Unique in every aspect, each of the 23 extant species of Vultures not only ignites further inspiration for our practice and craft but most importantly permeates the ecological significance and the very fundamentals of the way we operate..."
  • Are the Objects Sustainable and Ethical?
As one of the core principles of our design practice we work solely and exclusively with secondary materials: offcuts and scraps of fur and shearling, as well as remnants of leather. We aim to utilise natural materials deemed unviable by the fashion industry due to the extra time and effort they require, and casted aside as a result. We, on the other hand, embrace these materials and their unique characteristics, crafting each item as a one-off and assembling every Object individually, from scratch. We do not rely on or support polyester fibre production or water-intensive recycling processes. We are committed to the belief that our approach to working with shearling, fur, and leather makes our design practice truly sustainable and ethical. You can read more about practice principles in our manifesto: "..The materials we use are not arbitrarily picked but are a conscious choice aligned with our vision. Our goal is to scavenge not just the deadstock fabrications but mainly focus on use of various offcuts. We aim to fully operate on secondary market materials, reclaiming and repurposing scraps of sampling and productions, deliberately avoiding raw materials and distant manufacturers in favour of local sourcing. The leather we employ comprises a mix of offcuts and hides left over from other companies' production runs, making it post-industrial material sourced across London. In our approach to shearling and fur, we adhere strictly to using only scraps and offcuts, all procured from London-based manufactures. We are dedicated to seeking out, collecting, and purchasing their production and repair remnants – we do not buy or use full hides.."
  • How to place an order?
You can place an order directly through our website. Browse our collections, such as 'MONC ET RELIQ'—a series of sheepskin scarves and collars—and 'DESMODI'—our leather MacBook Cases. Within each collection, you'll find a diverse range of Objects available for purchase. There are two ways to purchase our work, as indicated on each Object's page under 'Format of Purchase': - Direct Purchase - Made to Order We've thoroughly described both options below and on each Object's page for your convenience.
  • What's Direct Purchase?
Direct Purchase is one of the ways you can acquire our Objects. It is simply means that you purchasing one of our pieces that have already been made to present our work and is currently 'in stock'. When making a Direct Purchase, you select a particular, completed one-of-a-kind Object with an already assigned unique number that will never be used again. It is a rare opportunity to acquire a directly available piece, as only a handful of Objects are created for each of our entries. As one of our core practice principles, we embrace the ‘scrap only’, thereby valuing the imperfections and miscellany of leather and suede shapes to create one-of-a-kind pieces with their own individual characteristics and details. The uniqueness of each object is achieved not only by assembling each piece by hand from incongruous offcuts but also by using remnants of precious materials that many would discard. The imperfections of leather offcuts, irregularities of their colour and texture are the features we value the most and intentionally keep within each Object. Due to inconsistencies of various monitors, lighting sources, digital photography, and dye variations, we cannot guarantee that the color seen on a screen accurately portrays the true color of the Object. Screen images are intended as a guide only and should not be regarded as absolutely correct We aim to ship Direct Purchases out within 3 working days of order receipt. If you have any urgent requests or further questions regarding acquiring one of our Objects, please contact us via info@vultures.digital
  • What's Made to Order?
Made to Order is another way to purchase our Objects and serves as our core modus operandi. We can customise our Objects to your desired specifications (e.g. size, colour, type of material). You can indicate those details at the check out, and/or we will always contact you after the order has been placed to double check the information. If you are based in London we can arrange a visit, and present a collection of available materials to choose from, and discuss further design details. Please contact us via info@vultures.digital When choosing 'Made to Order', a bespoke Object will be handcrafted for you with an assigned unique number that will never be repeated. We aim to complete 'Made-to-Order' Objects within 2-3 weeks of order receipt.
